Tip the meal, not the tax

Tip No Tax.
Pay clearer.

Tip No Tax is a focused iPhone calculator for dining out in the United States. Scan a receipt, confirm the subtotal, choose a tip rate, and split the check from the pre-tax amount instead of letting tax-on-tax tipping quietly inflate the bill.

About Tip No Tax

A tiny utility with a very clear opinion.

The app is designed for one everyday annoyance: restaurant checkout screens and receipts that nudge you toward tipping on the tax. Tip No Tax keeps the calculation anchored to the subtotal, then shows the total and per-person split immediately.

Open the app at the table, point the camera at the receipt, and let Apple Vision read the lines locally. The scan is treated as a starting point, not a final answer, so the detected subtotal, tax, and receipt total stay editable before the result is used.

Manual entry is just as fast when the receipt is messy. Enter the subtotal and tax, pick 12%, 15%, 20%, or a custom percentage, then set the number of people at the table.

Tip No Tax avoids turning a simple meal into a finance app. No account, no social layer, no receipt history to manage, and no cloud receipt upload in the core workflow.

Key Features

Built for the moment the receipt hits the table.

Everything in the app is aimed at getting from receipt to fair split quickly, while keeping the user in control of the numbers.

01

Receipt scanning

Use the camera to scan a receipt and extract likely subtotal, tax, tip, and total amounts with local text recognition.

02

Manual confirmation

OCR never silently decides for you. Confirm the detected amounts, fix anything odd, or rescan before calculating.

03

Pre-tax tip math

The tip amount is based on subtotal, then tax is added back for the final total. That keeps the calculation direct and easy to audit.

04

Fast tip choices

Pick 12%, 15%, or 20% instantly, or type a custom percentage when the service, restaurant, or group norm calls for it.

05

Split by people

Set the party size and the app shows the per-person amount alongside the final total, with currency formatting throughout.

06

Home Screen widget

A small widget opens the scanner directly, so the common action is one tap away without exposing receipt data on the Home Screen.

How It Works

Scan, confirm, tip, split.

The flow is deliberately short because the right time to use the app is also the moment everyone wants to leave the table.

Step 1

Scan the receipt

Open the camera scanner from the app or widget and let OCR find receipt amounts.

Step 2

Check the numbers

Review subtotal, tax, and total. Edit any field if the paper receipt is noisy.

Step 3

Choose the tip

Use quick percentages or enter a custom rate. The base stays pre-tax.

Step 4

Split the check

Set the number of people and see the total and each person's share.

Privacy Posture

Your receipt is not the product.

The app's receipt workflow is built around local recognition and manual confirmation, with a narrow data surface for a narrow job.

Device-side receipt reading

Receipt OCR uses Apple's Vision framework on the iPhone. The app does not need a server OCR step to read subtotal and tax lines.

No receipt account

Tip No Tax does not ask you to sign in, sync receipts, or build a purchase history in the core calculator flow.

Transparent SDK note

The project includes Google Mobile Ads and Firebase dependencies. The privacy page explains that separately from receipt scanning.
