Privacy Overview

No Tipflation is a focused receipt utility. The app reads receipt text on the device with Apple's Vision framework, lets you manually confirm or edit amounts, and calculates tips from the pre-tax subtotal. The app does not require an account, and we do not operate any server that receives your receipt images or amounts.

The free version of the app shows banner ads through Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) and uses Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate, non-identifying usage. We do not sell your personal information.

Receipt scanning is local Receipt OCR runs on device through Apple Vision. We don't operate a server OCR pipeline.
No account, no sync The app does not ask you to sign in, and your receipt amounts stay on the device.
Ads & analytics disclosed Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) and Firebase Analytics are described in detail below.

Categories of Information

Aligned with Apple's App Store Privacy Labels, the categories of data associated with this app are:

  • Identifiers — Device ID: The advertising identifier (IDFA) is accessed by the Google Mobile Ads SDK and is used for tracking when you grant App Tracking Transparency permission. Not linked to your name.
  • Usage Data — Product Interaction: Aggregated, non-identifying interaction events (e.g. screens viewed, taps on tip buttons) are collected by Firebase Analytics for aggregate analytics. Not used for tracking. Not linked to your name.
  • Diagnostics — Crash Data and Performance Data: Standard crash logs and performance traces collected by Firebase to help us fix bugs. Not used for tracking. Not linked to your name.

We do not collect: your name, email, phone number, location, contacts, photos library, health data, financial account data, or the content of receipts or amounts you enter.

Information You Provide in the App

When you use No Tipflation, you may enter or scan receipt amounts such as subtotal, tax, receipt total, tip percentage, and split count. These values are used to calculate the tip amount, final total, and per-person split.

  • Receipt images are used for on-device text recognition only when you choose to scan.
  • Detected amounts are shown for review and can be edited before use.
  • The app does not create a cloud receipt archive or transmit amounts to a server we operate.
  • The app's only persistent local data is your last-used tip percentage, stored via iOS UserDefaults on your device.
  • The app does not require your name, email address, phone number, or a user account.

Camera and On-Device Receipt Scanning

No Tipflation requests camera access only when you start the receipt scanner. Text recognition is performed on the device using Apple's Vision framework. The app may enhance the captured image locally to improve OCR accuracy.

Captured images and OCR text never leave your device through No Tipflation's own code. Receipt content is not sent to our servers, to AdMob, or to Firebase as part of any calculation workflow.

You can deny or revoke camera permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. The tip calculator continues to work; you can enter amounts manually.

App Tracking Transparency (ATT)

On iOS, No Tipflation displays Apple's standard App Tracking Transparency prompt the first time you have used the app for a brief period. Your response controls whether the app may access your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for tracking purposes:

  • If you tap "Allow": Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) may access the IDFA and show personalized ads. Limited interaction signals may be used by Google to attribute ad performance and prevent fraud.
  • If you tap "Ask App Not to Track": The app does not access the IDFA for tracking. AdMob will only serve non-personalized ads, and contextual signals (e.g. coarse device type) may be used to choose which ad to show. You will still see ads, but they will not be tailored to you.
  • You can change your decision at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or by toggling "Allow Apps to Request to Track" off entirely to deny all apps.

Advertising — Google Mobile Ads (AdMob)

The free version of No Tipflation displays banner ads at the bottom of the screen using Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). When the SDK serves an ad, the following types of data may be processed by Google:

  • Advertising identifier (IDFA) — only when you have granted ATT permission.
  • Coarse device information — device type, OS version, screen size, language, country.
  • Ad interaction events — impressions, clicks, viewability.
  • Approximate location inferred from IP address (not GPS).

Google's collection and use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and its Advertising Privacy Policy . You can manage your Google ad personalization preferences at adssettings.google.com .

SKAdNetwork & PCM. The app supports Apple's SKAdNetwork and Privacy Click Measurement frameworks, which allow Apple to report aggregate, privacy-preserving ad attribution data to advertisers. These frameworks do not transmit IDFA or any other user identifier.

Analytics — Firebase Analytics

The app includes Firebase Analytics to understand non-identifying, aggregate product usage (e.g. how many users complete a tip calculation, which percentage buttons are tapped). The data we receive through the Firebase console is aggregated and not linked to a specific user.

Firebase Analytics may process the following types of data on Google's infrastructure:

  • App Instance ID — a randomly generated identifier scoped to this app.
  • Screen views, taps, and other in-app events.
  • Approximate region inferred from IP, app version, OS version.
  • Crash reports and performance traces.

Firebase Analytics user-level data is retained on Google's infrastructure for 14 months by default, after which it is deleted automatically. Aggregated reports may be retained longer. Google's data handling practices for Firebase are described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy .

Data We Do Not Collect

  • Your receipt images or raw OCR text on a No Tipflation backend (we don't operate one).
  • A history of restaurants, meals, purchases, or check totals tied to an account.
  • Payment card numbers, bank information, or payment credentials.
  • Contacts, calendars, photo library, health data, or precise location.
  • Your name, email, phone number, or any direct contact information.

Data Retention

  • On your device: Local preferences (such as your last-used tip percentage) remain until you clear app data or uninstall the app.
  • Firebase Analytics: User-level event data is retained on Google's infrastructure for up to 14 months by default, then deleted.
  • AdMob ad serving data: Retained according to Google's published retention practices, typically used in real time and short-term.

International Data Transfers

Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) and Firebase Analytics are operated by Google LLC. Data collected by these SDKs is transmitted to and processed on Google infrastructure, which may be located in the United States or other countries.

If you access the app from the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the legal basis for these transfers is Standard Contractual Clauses published by Google as part of its data processing terms.

Your Rights — EEA, UK, Switzerland (GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:

  • Right to access the personal data processed about you.

  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten").
  • Right to restrict or object to processing.
  • Right to data portability.
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time.
  • Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Because No Tipflation does not maintain a user account or collect direct identifiers, we are typically unable to identify a specific user's data. To exercise rights against Google's processing of advertising or analytics data, please use the controls described in Google's Privacy Policy or contact us and we will assist where possible.

Legal basis for processing: Your consent (for ATT-based ad personalization) and our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving a free app (for non-tracking analytics and crash reporting).

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what categories of personal information are collected and how they are used.
  • Request deletion of your personal information.
  • Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • Be free from discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
Notice of Sale / Sharing. No Tipflation does not "sell" your personal information for money. However, depending on how California law interprets ad-related data sharing, the use of Google Mobile Ads with personalized ads enabled may qualify as "sharing" under CPRA. You can opt out at any time by tapping "Ask App Not to Track" in the iOS ATT prompt, which prevents IDFA-based personalization.

Children's Privacy

No Tipflation is a general utility intended for adults paying for restaurant meals and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app and information has been collected through Firebase Analytics or AdMob, contact us at crusade.ray@gmail.com and we will work with our service providers to address the matter.
